Grammy Awards 2007 - Best Metal Performance

Live to Win

Here are the nominations for "Best Metal Performance" in the 49th Grammy Awards, held on February 11, 2007.

Lamb of God - Redneck
Mastodon - Colony of Birchmen
Ministry - Lies Lies Lies
Slayer - Eyes of the Insane
Stone Sour - 30/30-150

I normally don't pay attention to the Grammys, as I have little interest in watching the major labels congratulate themselves. Past nominations reveal how out-of-touch the industry is with what's happening or good in metal. That Jethro Tull won in 1989 in a combined Hard Rock/Metal Performance category speaks for itself.

But this year, four of the five bands are actually good. Note, though, that each nominated song is fairly bland for the band. The category should read, "Best Major Label Metal Single with a Video." In metal, choosing a "single" usually means picking the song that pisses off the least people. Words like "electable" and "John Kerry" come to mind.

Skip the show, but throw the goat if rednecks from Virginia or Georgia, Bush-haters in Texas, or fuckin' Slayer grace the podium.
