What is Invisible Oranges?

Invisible Oranges is a website with two purposes. First, it is a metal MP3 blog devoted to all forms of heavy metal - death metal, black metal, grindcore, thrash, doom, and so on. Second, it is a repository for my writing as a metal journalist. My bylines have appeared in Stylus, PopMatters, Unrestrained!, Modern Fix, AMP, Hails & Horns, and Skratch. Currently, I write for Decibel, Pitchfork, All Music Guide, and Metal Injection.

Where does the name come from?

"Invisible oranges" describes the clutching gesture metalheads sometimes make when the mighty force of metal is flowing through them. For a full treatment of the phenomenon, read this fine article in Decibel Magazine.

What's your MP3 policy?

All MP3's will be removed a month after posting. Do not contact me about reposting old MP3's - if you snooze, you lose. If you are an artist or label and want an MP3 removed sooner, email me at the address below. These MP3's are in no way intended as substitutes for the original tracks; each MP3 is encoded at 128 kbps, and if you think that is a sufficient substitute for the real thing - as Mr. T said, "I pity the fool." Rather, the intent is to promote artists and to encourage people to buy albums. If you pirate an album, you miss out on artwork, lyrics, and in general a much more fulfilling experience. If you want to support artists, buy their albums.

Is a Blogger account required to leave a comment?

No. Anyone can leave a comment on this site. The "Login and Publish" button in the comments box is a bit misleading. No matter who you are, if you pass the word verification test, hitting that button will publish your comment.

I left a comment, but it's not there anymore. What happened?

This is not the place for flaming comments. If you want to hide behind your computer and insult others, there are plenty of other websites for that. Constructive discussions are welcome; trolls are not. This site is intended to build community, not destroy it. Comments that violate this spirit will be deleted.
